The best golf courses in England for groups
England has more golf courses than anywhere else in Europe. These are the ones our groups ask for most:
The Belfry, Brabazon Course: four times a Ryder Cup venue, with the famous water at the 10th and 18th.
Royal St George's and Prince's: championship links side by side at Sandwich in Kent.
Royal Birkdale and Hillside: great dunes links on the Southport coast.
Woodhall Spa, Hotchkin Course: heathland in Lincolnshire and home of England Golf.
St Mellion, Nicklaus Course: a Jack Nicklaus design on the Cornwall and Devon border.
Saunton and St Enodoc: big dunes links on the north coast of Devon and Cornwall.
Slaley Hall: two courses in the Northumberland countryside, a former European Tour venue.
Where to stay on an England golf break
The Belfry Hotel & Resort: three courses, a spa and a lively bar, right in the middle of the country.
Slaley Hall and Forest Pines: golf and spa resorts with half board packages.
The Inn at Woodhall Spa: a short walk from the Hotchkin and Bracken courses.
St Mellion Estate: two courses and a resort hotel on the Cornwall and Devon border.
The Manor House Hotel: 5-star in the Cotswold village of Castle Combe, with its own course.
Hanbury Manor: a country club in Hertfordshire, an easy trip from London.
Planning a group golf break in England
We've organised group golf trips for over 24 years. Here's how an England golf break works with us:
Small deposits secure your tee times and rooms early, which matters for weekends in summer.
Individual payments mean each golfer pays their own balance. No chasing your mates for money.
One booking covers your hotel and tee times, and dinner too on most of our packages.
Travel is booked separately. Most groups drive, so you can bring your own clubs.
Golf societies are welcome. See our GroupiaGolf Society page.
When is the best time for a golf break in England?
| Months | What to expect | Best for |
|---|---|---|
| April to May | Fresh days and good rates before the summer. | Value |
| June to August | Long evenings and courses at their best. | The best golf |
| September to October | Often settled weather and quieter tee sheets. | The sweet spot |
| November to March | Winter deals at the resorts, and links courses that play all year. | Winter breaks |
Play England's Ryder Cup and Open venues
England has hosted the Ryder Cup and The Open many times. These are the big event venues you can play with us:
| Course | Region | Big event history | How to play it with us |
|---|---|---|---|
| The Belfry, Brabazon Course | West Midlands | Hosted the Ryder Cup four times | The Belfry, 1 night with the Brabazon, from £169pp |
| Royal St George's | South East | Open venue, most recently in 2021 | 2 nights with Royal St George's and Prince's, from £745pp |
| Prince's | South East | Hosted The Open in 1932 | 1 night with 2 rounds, from £370pp |
| Royal Birkdale | North West | One of the most famous Open venues | Tailor-made: ask us early |
| Woodhall Spa, Hotchkin | East Midlands | Home of England Golf, ranked among the best inland courses | 1 night with the Hotchkin and Bracken, from £215pp |
The Belfry is the easiest place to start, and Sandwich gives you two Open links in one trip:
Getting there
Drive: most groups drive, so you can bring your own clubs and play more than one course.
Train: many resorts are close to a mainline station, including Newcastle for Slaley Hall and Birmingham for The Belfry.
Coach: for bigger societies, see our golf coach trips.
Beyond the golf
Combine your golf break with a night out in Newcastle, Manchester, Leeds or Birmingham, a race meeting, or a pint by the sea in Cornwall. Many of our resorts have a spa for the morning after, and the cities are never far away.
