Golf in Portugal at a glance

Golf holidays in Portugal are the easiest win in European golf for UK groups: short flights, playable weather all year and five very different golf regions to choose from. Most groups start in the Algarve, where championship courses sit a short transfer from each other and from Faro airport.

Lisbon adds Atlantic links and a capital city break. Porto, Madeira and the Azores suit groups who have done the Algarve and want something new. Wherever you go, we put the whole trip together: hotel, tee times and transfers, with small deposits and each golfer paying their own share.

Top 7 cheap golf holidays in Portugal

Our best-value Portugal golf breaks, and when to go to get them.

Portugal's best golf courses for groups

Portugal's courses range from tree-lined parkland to clifftop links. These are the ones our groups ask for most.

  • Old Course Vilamoura (Algarve) – Frank Pennink's 1969 parkland classic. Tree-lined, strategic and always in great condition.
  • Quinta do Lago South (Algarve) – A regular Portuguese Open venue. A proper test, especially on the closing holes.
  • Monte Rei North (Algarve) – A Jack Nicklaus Signature course, often ranked the best in Portugal. Quiet, premium and immaculate.
  • West Cliffs Golf Links (Lisbon coast) – Dune-land links above the Atlantic near Óbidos. A bucket-list round.
  • Penha Longa Atlantic (Lisbon coast) – A championship course in the Sintra hills, west of Lisbon.
  • Clube de Golf Santo da Serra (Madeira) – 27 holes by Robert Trent Jones Sr. and a former Madeira Islands Open venue.
  • Estela Golf Club (Porto) – Seaside golf on the coast north of Porto, right next to Tivoli Estela Golf & Lodges.

Where to stay on a Portugal golf holiday

Where you stay shapes the trip as much as where you play. These hotels work well for groups:

Planning a group golf trip to Portugal

We've organised group golf trips for over 24 years. Here's how a Portugal trip works with us:

  • Small deposits secure your tee times and rooms early, which matters in peak months.
  • Individual payments mean each golfer pays their own balance. No chasing your mates for money.
  • One booking covers your hotel, tee times and transfers, so the organiser only deals with us.
  • Flights are booked separately. We'll tell you which airport to use and sort everything once you land.
  • Golf societies are welcome. See our GroupiaGolf Society page.

Beyond the golf

Albufeira has the liveliest nightlife in the Algarve, while Vilamoura Marina is more polished, with good restaurants and late bars. In Lisbon you can add a day in the city or the old town of Sintra. Porto has riverside bars and port lodges, and Madeira suits groups who want great food and a slower pace.

"I had a fantastic time booking the weekend away. 10/10 all the way through."

Portugal golf holiday FAQs

March to May and September to November are the best months. Courses are in top condition and it's warm without the summer heat. June to August is hotter and busier but great if your group wants golf and nightlife. December to February is mild, quieter and the best value.

For most groups it's the Algarve. It has the most courses, the widest choice of hotels and short transfers from Faro. Lisbon suits groups who want a city break with their golf, while Madeira and Porto are great for a second or third Portugal trip.

Our Portugal packages start from £215pp for 3 nights B&B and 2 rounds at NH Lagos in the Algarve. Most 3 to 4 night Algarve and Lisbon breaks cost between £235pp and £600pp, depending on the hotel, the courses and the time of year. Flights are booked separately.

Yes, mostly in the Algarve. Pestana Blue Alvor Beach offers 3 nights all-inclusive with unlimited golf from £389pp. Near Albufeira, NAU Salgados Palm Village and NAU Sao Rafael Suites both offer 3 nights all-inclusive with 2 rounds, from £499pp and £515pp.

Portugal has more than 100 golf courses. The Algarve has the largest share, followed by the Lisbon coast. We book courses in all five of Portugal's golf regions: the Algarve, Lisbon, Porto, Madeira and the Azores.

Many of Portugal's top courses ask for proof of handicap, and some set a maximum handicap. Bring your certificate or have your handicap app ready. We'll tell you the rules for each course when we build your trip.

Yes. The Algarve and Madeira stay mild through winter and courses are open all year. December to February is quieter and usually the best value, which makes it popular for winter sun golf breaks.

No. Our prices cover your accommodation, golf and, where listed, transfers. Book flights separately to Faro, Lisbon, Porto or Funchal, and we'll take care of everything once you land.

Yes, societies are what we do best. We hold tee times and rooms on a small deposit, and each golfer pays their own balance. See our GroupiaGolf Society page or send us your group's details.

Choose the Algarve for choice and value: the most courses, lots of hotels and a lively nightlife. Choose Madeira for something different: dramatic island courses, including Seve Ballesteros's Porto Santo Golfe, and warm weather all year.

Travel between November and February, pick a 3-night break and stay at a resort with its own course. Our guide to cheap golf holidays in Portugal lists our best-value picks.
