Golf in Wales at a glance
Golf breaks in Wales give you a Ryder Cup course and some of the best links in Britain, without a flight. Play the Twenty Ten at Celtic Manor, home of the 2010 Ryder Cup, then head west for Royal Porthcawl, Pyle & Kenfig and the clifftop links at Pennard on the Gower.
Most of our Wales golf breaks are one or two nights, and the courses are close to Cardiff, Newport and Swansea for your evenings. We put the whole trip together: hotel and tee times in one booking, with small deposits and each golfer paying their own share.

Where to play golf in Wales
Most Welsh golf breaks are in the south. The south east has Celtic Manor, St Pierre and the Vale. The south west has the links coast from Porthcawl to the Gower. In the north, we offer Llanymynech on the border and tailor-made trips.
South East Wales
Celtic Manor and St Pierre near the Severn crossings, and the Vale Resort just outside Cardiff.
South West Wales
The links coast from Porthcawl to the Gower and Carmarthen Bay.
South West Wales is links country. Royal Porthcawl, Pyle & Kenfig and Southerndown sit together near Porthcawl, and Pennard, Ashburnham and Machynys are a short drive west of Swansea.
Stay in Swansea for the city and the seafront, and you can play a different links each day.
North Wales
Golf on the Welsh border, with tailor-made trips further north on request.
Llanymynech is a hilltop course on the border with Shropshire, famous for the hole where you tee off in Wales and putt out in England. Ian Woosnam learned to play here.
Looking for the North Wales coast? Tell us where you want to play and we will build a trip around it.

The best golf courses in Wales for groups
Wales packs a lot of great golf into a small area. These are the courses our groups ask for most:
The Twenty Ten, Celtic Manor: built for the 2010 Ryder Cup, and the course every group wants to play in Wales.
Royal Porthcawl: a championship links with the sea in view from every hole, and a Senior Open venue.
Pyle & Kenfig: big dunes links right next door to Royal Porthcawl.
Southerndown: clifftop links above the Ogmore estuary, firm and fast in summer.
Pennard: the "links in the sky" on the Gower, with castle ruins beside the course.
Ashburnham and Machynys Peninsula: two links on Carmarthen Bay, west of Swansea.
St Pierre: parkland near Chepstow that hosted the 1996 Solheim Cup.
Where to stay on a Wales golf break
Celtic Manor Resort: 5-star, with all three courses on the estate.
Coldra Court Hotel and TY Newport: value hotels next to Celtic Manor, with golf shuttles in many packages.
Hunter Lodges: self catering lodges on the Celtic Manor estate, good for bigger groups.
The Vale Resort: 4-star with two courses, just outside Cardiff.
The Dragon Hotel and Village Hotel Swansea: city bases for the south west links.
Delta Hotels by Marriott, St Pierre: on the St Pierre estate near Chepstow.
Planning a group golf break in Wales
We've organised group golf trips for over 24 years. Here's how a Wales golf break works with us:
Small deposits secure your tee times and rooms early, which matters for weekends in summer.
Individual payments mean each golfer pays their own balance. No chasing your mates for money.
One booking covers your hotel and tee times, plus golf shuttles where the package includes them.
Travel is booked separately. Most groups drive, so you can bring your own clubs.
Golf societies are welcome. See our GroupiaGolf Society page.
When is the best time for a golf break in Wales?
| Months | What to expect | Best for |
|---|---|---|
| April to May | Fresh days and quieter tee sheets before the summer. | Value |
| June to August | Long days and courses at their best. | The best golf |
| September to October | Often settled weather and good rates. | The sweet spot |
| November to March | Wet and windy at times, but the links drain well and stay open. | Winter deals |
Celtic Manor golf breaks
Celtic Manor is the biggest name in Welsh golf. The resort has three courses, including the Twenty Ten, built for the 2010 Ryder Cup:
| Course | Style | Known for |
|---|---|---|
| The Twenty Ten | Championship parkland | Built for and hosted the 2010 Ryder Cup |
| The Montgomerie | Hilltop parkland | Designed by Colin Montgomerie, with views over the Usk Valley |
| The Roman Road | Parkland | The resort's original course, a good warm up round |
Stay at the resort itself, at a value hotel next door with golf shuttles, or in self catering lodges on the estate:
Getting to Wales
Drive: Celtic Manor is just off the M4 at Newport, around two and a half hours from London, with no tolls on the Severn bridges.
Train: London to Newport or Cardiff in around two hours.
Fly: to Cardiff or Bristol for groups coming from further away.
North Wales: Llanymynech is around an hour and a half from Manchester and Liverpool.
Beyond the golf
Cardiff has one of the best nights out in Britain, from Caroline Street to the bars around the Principality Stadium, and a match day is hard to beat. Explore Cardiff Castle and Cardiff Bay, walk the beaches of the Gower near Swansea, or visit Caerleon's Roman fortress, just down the road from Celtic Manor.
"Groupia are amazing! They took the stress out of me doing everything myself."
"Had a great time and the booking process was easy and straightforward!"
"Would definitely recommend using Groupia to arrange similar events."
"I had a fantastic time booking the weekend away. 10/10 all the way through."
