Golf in Scotland at a glance
Golf breaks in Scotland take you to where the game began. Play the Old Course and Kingsbarns at St Andrews, the Open venues at Carnoustie, Muirfield, Royal Troon and Turnberry, or the wild northern links at Royal Dornoch. There is no long flight, the courses are close together, and the nineteenth hole comes with a fine choice of whisky.
Most of our Scotland golf breaks are one to three nights, and we can join regions together for a longer golf holiday. We put the whole trip together: hotel and tee times in one booking, with small deposits and each golfer paying their own share.

Scotland's best golf courses for groups
Scotland has more great courses than anywhere else in the world. These are the ones our groups ask for most:
The Old Course, St Andrews: the oldest and most famous course in golf, and the place every golfer wants to play.
Kingsbarns Golf Links: a modern links on the cliffs just south of St Andrews, with the sea in view on every hole.
Carnoustie Championship Course: a tough Open venue and one of the hardest tests in golf.
Muirfield and North Berwick: classic East Lothian links, less than an hour from Edinburgh.
Royal Troon and Turnberry Ailsa: two Open venues on the Ayrshire coast, with views out to Ailsa Craig and Arran.
Gleneagles: three championship courses, including the PGA Centenary, host of the 2014 Ryder Cup.
Royal Dornoch: a remote Highland links that many top players rank among the best in the world.
Where to stay on a Scotland golf break

Planning a group golf break in Scotland
We've organised group golf trips for over 24 years. Here's how a Scotland golf break works with us:
Small deposits secure your tee times and rooms early, which matters for the famous links in summer.
Individual payments mean each golfer pays their own balance. No chasing your mates for money.
One booking covers your hotel and tee times.
Travel is booked separately. Drive, take the train or fly, and we will have everything ready when you arrive.
Golf societies are welcome. See our GroupiaGolf Society page.
When is the best time for a golf break in Scotland?
| Months | What to expect | Best for |
|---|---|---|
| April to May | Fresh, bright days and firm links, before the summer crowds. | Value |
| June to August | Long days, light until late, and courses at their best. | The best golf |
| September to October | Often settled weather and quieter tee sheets. | The sweet spot |
| November to March | Cold, wet and short days, but many links stay open. | Hardy golfers |
Golf breaks to Scotland's Open venues
Scotland has hosted The Open more often than anywhere else. These are the Scottish Open venues you can play with us:
| Course | Region | Open history | How to play it with us |
|---|---|---|---|
| The Old Course, St Andrews | St Andrews | Has hosted more Opens than any other course, including the 150th Open in 2022 | Tailor-made: tee times are limited, so ask us early |
| Carnoustie Championship | Dundee & Perth | Last hosted The Open in 2018 | Tailor-made |
| Royal Troon Old Course | Ayrshire | Last hosted The Open in 2024 | Marine Troon, 2 nights and 3 rounds |
| Muirfield | Edinburgh & East Lothian | Last hosted The Open in 2013 | Tailor-made |
| Turnberry Ailsa | Ayrshire | Hosted The Open four times, most recently in 2009 | Trump Turnberry, 1 or 2 nights |
| Prestwick Golf Club | Ayrshire | Hosted the very first Open in 1860 | Marine Troon, 2 nights and 3 rounds |
Our Ayrshire packages are the easiest way to play them, and for a once-in-a-lifetime trip there is the Old Course Hotel:
Getting to Scotland
Fly: to Edinburgh, Glasgow, Aberdeen or Inverness, around an hour to an hour and a half from London.
Train: London to Edinburgh in around four and a half hours, then on to St Andrews, East Lothian or Perthshire.
Drive: the best option if you want your own clubs and the freedom to play several regions.
St Andrews: around an hour from Edinburgh airport.
Beyond the golf
Walk the old town of St Andrews and the West Sands, explore Edinburgh Castle and the Royal Mile, or take a distillery tour on a rest day. In the Highlands, visit Loch Ness and Culloden near Inverness, or walk in the Cairngorms from Aviemore. Wherever you play, there is a good pub and a dram waiting after your round.
